New Dimensions Center Wellness & Weight Control Newsletter November 23 ------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------ Contents of this issue - Welcome - Testimonial - Today’s Quotation - Featured Article “Staying on Track During the Holidays” - Quick and Easy Low Carb Recipe ------------------------------------------------ Hello, and welcome to this issue of the Wellness & Weight Control Newsletter! Winter has arrived and the holidays are just around the corner. Many of us get off track when it comes to our weight loss and wellness goals during the holidays. How long does it usually take you to lose the weight you gain over the holidays? How do you feel after the holidays are over, when you realize that you set your goals back by several weeks? Would you like to
keep to your healthy lifestyle this holiday season? Would you like to
avoid gaining, or even lose a few pounds? Would you like to make it
as easy as possible? Read the article, “Staying on Track During
the Holidays,” in this issue. Need a little more help than that?

She used to be on [another program] that used some of the same products that New Dimensions uses, but they were a lot more expensive. And you couldn’t buy the drinks unless you were on their program (the cheapest program was more than $100 for 3 months!).“ – Marie Azel Sign up for a program
at http://www.weight-control.org/weight-loss-programs-SignUp.html Another year has gone by and the holiday season is almost here. What do the holidays mean to you? Do you look forward to the holidays as a fun, joyous family time? Or are the holidays something you dread, because they are stressful, or full of temptation? What is your usual eating and exercise pattern during the holidays? Do you stick to your healthy eating and regular exercise schedule, or do you put it aside for the holidays? If you are in the latter category, you are not alone. Did you know that the average American gains around 8 pounds in the period between Thanksgiving and Christmas? You can make this year different. First, remember that you have a choice. If you want to stick to your healthy habits, make the decision to do just that. Then, plan ahead. If you have a plan for handling problem situations, you will be much more likely to stick to your program. First, identify your personal problem situations. For example, maybe you attend holiday parties and wind up eating things you shouldn’t because you are hungry. Or, perhaps you find it hard to resist the goodies that are sitting around at work. Or, maybe you have to do a lot of cooking or baking and wind up eating whatever you are cooking. Be prepared for these situations so that you can make healthier choices. Always plan to eat something before attending a party. If your schedule is hectic and you don’t have time to plan something to eat, make sure you always have a healthy snack with you (string cheese, protein bars, vegetables). Drink club soda or water instead of alcoholic beverages (alcohol is high in sugars and carbs, and alcohol can impair your judgment and contribute to making unhealthy choices). When around tempting foods, chew sugar free gum and enjoy the conversation. If the holidays are stressful for you, and you overeat when stressed, identify what causes you to feel stressed. Do other people’s demands upset and frustrate you? Do you put too many demands on yourself, trying to plan the “perfect” holiday and wind up with too much to do and too little time? Do you spend too much money during the holidays and worry about paying off your credit cards? Once you have identified your reasons for feeling stressed, work on ways to reduce the stress. Try saying no to some of the demands others put on you. Set your sights on a nice, peaceful holiday season instead of the “perfect” holiday. Take some time for yourself to relax and de-stress. Make a list of what you will spend money on this holiday season, then stick to your list, so that you know ahead of time how much you will be spending. Write the potential problem situations and possible solutions in your journal. (If you don’t have a journal, this would be a great time to start one.) Writing things down gives them more emphasis in your subconscious mind, so that they work better for you. The holidays can
be a positive time in your efforts to lose weight and achieve greater
health. Think about how great you will feel if you can look back on
the holidays and feel proud of your commitment. With a little effort
and some planning, you can succeed! |
